another Hong Kong street story.

In the tourist areas of this fair city you're certain to find Asian blokes (pakistani and Indian) offering passing soft targets (white people) 'rolex watches' and 'costom taylored suits'. Usually I can summon a smile and have even exchanged a bit of banter as I politely refuse and re-refuse untill I get out of range.

Today I was extra tired after a demanding week at school and I was being followed down the street by one of these chaps.

He was sticking quite close to me, I was ignoring him as he tried every trick his experience had taught him might get a response and he was sticking quite close. As he reached his last all or nothing tactic of injecting some serious urgency into his voice. . .

"Just take a look sir, sir, excuse me, excuse me, take my card, please take my card, sir, sir....just take a look sir, sir, have you seen...best prices, sir! just take a look!"

. . .I found myself turning on him, backing him up and shouting in his face! I said "NO! OK!...NNOOo, NO!!"

He Looked a bit shocked.

I felt a bit ashamed.

I kept walking.

After a bad day at school, I can well imagine doing that to someone to!

The problem is the persistance of the sellers - it's not like you've shown any interest whatsoever - so if you've said "no" politely, this was probably the ONLY way to get the message across to him (even though it wasn't very nice).
