The Honesty of Children

Lunch hour at work, its friday, no more lessons...just some speech festival coaching, so I am flouting the unspoken law that reads

Thou shalt not do anything for yourself at work.

....and I have decided to rattle off some stream of conciousness during my nine to five (7 to 7 for me actaully) Because its at work though, I think it might end up as 'steam' of conciousness what with the frantic faffing about in this staffroom at lunchtime. Over the weekend I'll try best to write something really good, some 'cream' of conciousness. Do you like 'cream' puns..?

A week or so ago I asked my youngest class - 12 yr olds - to describe me for a short homework. They are sweet, charming, and eager to please teacher, or so I thought. My armour plated ego hasnt recovered yet.

Apparently I am a - half breed clown with funny Chinese and an arse like a hill. -

The honesty of children is terrifying.

Hey Cheryl, you want to see the compo's? Some of them are laugh out loud funny

Other comments included
"he has a brown hair"
"he has a yellow hair"
"he is from USA"
"he is from UK"
"he is from Australia"
"he is fit"
"he is fat"
"he is tall"
"he is not tall"

its all about perspective!!

I was discussing men's butts with a close friend the other day too and we came to the conclusion that white people on average do have big ones (compared to chinese). I was walking with my back to the wall for a whole day after I read that. I was suddenly very 'rear concious'

I need to accept it and 'become one' with my butt I think. Thanks anonymous.

i guess you're being lucky 'cause i've read about a JET teacher in kyoto, who is an african-american. he teaches english in junior high, which the students are like yours. they always ask him "biggu dikku" (big dick) "can you show us?" and they also have this psycho play called "kancho" that literally means... i dunno how to interpret it exactly in english you look it up on wiki, lol

Wha!....thanks Cheryl...I'll make a note NEVER to teach over there.

It may not be very good for me to say this but I do think there is something perverse or morally sick in some parts of Japanese society. It just seems like the family unit and personal well-being seem to be under so much pressure there. To be honest I know so little about that place I can't comment, its just my impression.

I looked up the word and . . . .oh man. I really can't believe such young kids would 'sexually assault' people for fun. I like your phrase Cheryl, it is indeed a 'psycho play'

My school is quite conservative and very Christian in a sort of Biblical protestant way rather than the many RC schools in HK. Not much rebelliousness at my school.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. So I take it, this is graded homework. What grade or 'constructive criticism' did you give him/her?

I guess they would be even more shocked if they ever had an African American lady teacher...

And how much did you lot pay Angel? He made a right arse out of himself today.

Hey Dez,
I think there are some players who are cursed. Mendes, Angel and some others. Phew, quite a game. The last 15 mins were tough on the nerves. Relieved that Tottenham are finally clawing back some results. West Ham at the Lane next. ..

Its not graded, Its something called 'home reading and writing' The kids have to keep reading records and write book reports and write on free writing topics.

My fellow teachers fell over with laughter when I read it out.

Oh come on, u've been here for almost 5 years and u should well be aware of their 'honesty' (and mine as well). But then what they said were really mild, not a big worry.

Ho my dear ex-student, I'll be more nervous now about our next meeting than I usually am!

You are an honest person, we have had frank discussions on many occasions but you have never yet made a direct reference to any of my physical characteristics that might have caused you displeasure.

Do I need to prepare myself for more 'honesty' Carmel?

Just remember now you are no longer my student, you have graduated and become my friend and so have the special duty owed by all friends, that is to 'FLATTER' and be 'NICE' so temper your honesty with kindness and be NICE to your dear Ex-teacher!

Its not easy being a teacher.

Um, I don't think you have to. But I understand clearly what friends are and their importance-to give suggestions to one another even it's not something pleasurable. What I believe is a true friend tells you exactly what they have in mind. Though this may not apply to everyone, I think it's one of the best guidelines for me to know who are true friends.
